Hair transplantation using beard grafts is usually done when the patient’s scalp donor supply is insufficient and the bald spots are too large to be covered. Beard grafts are an effective alternative donor source for hair transplantation because they stay in the growth (anagen) phase for a long time after being removed from the back of the scalp. Beard grafts are considered to be thicker than back-of-the-head grafts. As a result, hair grafts removed from the beard are transplanted in the top and crown area to create better volume in the transplanted area, however this may not be the ideal option for front hair restoration.
